A storm system will move into the Great Lakes today while an associated cold front takes aim on the Ohio Valley.

Strong winds will continue behind the storm across the northern Mississippi Valley and western Great Lakes with gusts to 40 mph. Along with the winds, a cool soaking rain will give the Upper Midwest an early fall feel.

A few severe thunderstorms are possible in the Ohio Valley.

The storm will provide a big temperature contrast across the region. Highs will be 5 to 15 degrees below average from the Dakotas to the western Great Lakes which means chilly 50s and 60s. Meanwhile, highs will be as much as 5 to 15 degrees above average in the Ohio Valley which equates to the hot 90s.
